OPPO is projected to launch 7th-gen Reno smartphones by the end of 2021. Now, a well-known Weibo tipster purports to outline how much each variant will cost on their allegedly imminent launch. Meanwhile, more potential details of what might be their flagship-grade counterpart have trickled out.

The Reno line consists of smartphones that have worked out reasonably well for the OEM OPPO in its native China since its inception, and is sometimes even found on the international market, albeit occasionally found rebranded as well-spec’d variants of the flagship Find series. New generations of the devices are often released with a frequency of about twice a year, which means one might just be around the corner.

It is rumored to be called the Reno 7 series, and to contain vanilla and Pro models as usual. However, there are preliminary hints that OPPO may have given up on the top-end Pro+ variant in favor of an SE instead.

This phone, according to the latest leaks, will have an FHD+ 90Hz 6.43-inch display that might be of the slightly elderly E3 AMOLED variety with the almost inevitable 2.5D curvature to boot; the OEM’s almost-stock 65W SuperVOOC charging tech; a 64MP main rear camera from Omnivision and a 32MP selfie camera.

The Reno 7 SE has also been thought to debut as a Redmi Note 11-series rival thanks to a new MediaTek Dimensity 920 SoC; however, the Weibo-based leaker Arsenal now asserts that it will run on the Snapdragon 778G instead.

The tipster also now asserts OPPO will start the novel variant at 2,699 yuan (~US$422) for a base model with 8GB of LPDDR4x RAM and 128GB of UFS2.2 internal storage, rising to 2,999 yuan (~$469) for a 12GB/256GB top-end SKU.

The Reno 7 and 7 Pro, on the other hand, are allegedly destined for “new BOE RGB-Delta” displays of 6.5 inches in diagonal length with a FHD+ display, a 120Hz refresh rate and 10-bit color. They will have the same 4,500mAh battery as the 7 SE; however, the 7 will have a more powerful MediaTek Dimensity 1200 processor, whereas the Pro will get a truly premium Snapdragon 888 SoC.

Arsenal now believes that they will start at 3,499 (~$547) and 4,299 yuan (~$672) for 8GB SKUs respectively. Based on the 7 Pro’s rumored silicon, it may be the device Digital Chat Station (another eminent leaker) suggests could launch “next month“.

The same source has hinted that it might have to do so overshadowed by OPPO’s first-ever foldable flagship. Nevertheless, Digital Chat Station now asserts that the OEM might also go ahead and launch a ‘conventional’ top-end model, powered by the possibly upcoming Snapdragon 898 platform. This device, apparently code-named butterfly, has somehow done something to disappoint the knowledgeable leaker already, as they now note that it may fail to prove a significant upgrade over its predecessor.

Presuming this remark pertains to the Find X3 Pro, it could be interpreted to mean this putative next generation will fail to offer the unique and innovative feature with which OPPO typically seeks to make its flagships stand out in the Android smartphone market. For example, the inaugural Find X had a mechanical sliding display to deploy its cameras, whereas the X3 Pro had a “microscope” camera.

Accordingly, the X4 may now be slated to come with nothing like that, and to be an unremittingly standard candy-bar mobile device instead. …….
