SEOUL, Aug. 17 (Korea Bizwire) — More than two-thirds of South Koreans regard smartphones as an essential part of their everyday lives, a poll showed Tuesday.
The Korea Information Society Development Institute conducted a survey of 6,834 South Korean men and women over 13 years of age from 4,236 households, which showed that 70.3 percent regarded smartphones as an essential part of their everyday lives, an increase of 14.8 percentage points compared to the results of a similar survey from 2016.
In contrast, only 27.1 percent regarded TV as an essential part of their lives, down by 11.5 percentage points from 2016.
Sorted by age, no more than 0.1 percent of teenagers, 4.5 percent of those in their 20s and 9.2 percent of those in their 30s regarded television as essential.
In contrast, a whopping 96.9 percent of teenagers, 92.2 percent of those in their 20s and 85.1 percent of those in their 30s regarded smartphones as essential.
A majority of the respondents in their 40s (84.3 percent) and 50s (70.4 percent) also regarded smartphones as essential, easily surpassing TVs (12.6 percent and 29.1 percent, respectively).
