Evan Blass has leaked details of what he believes could be the Edge 40 series. Potentially an Edge 40 Pro and a Moto G300 too, ‘Bronco’ and ‘Canyon’ are thought to feature 165 Hz displays and up to 12 GB of RAM. Purportedly, both will rely on flagship chipsets too, but Canyon will be the only of the two with Qualcomm’s next-generation Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.

Evan Blass has provided early details about the Edge 40 series, codenamed ‘Bronco’ and ‘Canyon’. According to Blass, that Motorola has earmarked Bronco and Canyon for 2023. Blass adds that these could be codenames for two Edge 40 series smartphones, both with 1080p and 165 Hz displays, 8 GB to 12 GB of RAM and 50 MP primary cameras. The pair will diverge in some areas though, with Bronco said to rely on the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 and Canyon set for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.

Moreover, Blass asserts that Canyon will come with a 50 MP ultra-wide-angle camera, along with 12 MP telephoto and 60 MP front-facing sensors. For context, the Edge 30 Pro features 50 MP primary and ultra-wide cameras, plus 2 MP depth and 60 MP front-facing sensors. Presumably, Canyon is the successor to the Edge 30 Pro then, likely called the Edge 40 Pro in most markets, the Edge Plus 2023 in North America and the Edge X40 in China.

In comparison, Blass states that Bronco will feature 13 MP ultra-wide and 16 MP front-facing cameras, both lower resolution sensors than those found in the Edge 30. Bronco is tipped to retain the 2 MP depth camera from this year’s model, though. Unfortunately, Blass has not outlined in what month either Bronco or Canyon will arrive. For context, Motorola announced the Edge 30 Pro in January for most markets and the Edge 30 in April. In saying that, the Edge X30 reached China in December 2021, so it remains to be seen when Canyon will debut and in what guise.
