Smartphones have become indispensable for 70% of South Koreans, up from 55% in last survey in 2016 by the Korea Information Society Development Institute (KISDI), whereas TVs were the top necessity for 27.1%, off 11.5 percentage points from last survey. Time spent on a smartphone averaged 122.9 minutes a day, compared with 99 minutes in 2016.
