After publishing its own research on the security of Chinese-made 5G cell phones, the Lithuanian government advises people to throw away their Xiaomi and Huawei phones and keep their OnePlus phones.

According to Reuters, Lithuanian Deputy Defense Minister Margiris Abukevicius told reporters during the unveiling of the report from Lithuania’s National Cyber Security Center, “Our recommendation is to not buy new Chinese phones, and to get rid of those already purchased as quickly as reasonably possible.”

As per the study, Xiaomi appears to perform the Chinese government’s bidding in ways that may endanger Western consumers, such as installing a censorship module in its phones and surreptitiously interacting with Chinese-run servers throughout the world. Meanwhile, Huawei’s sloppy app-installation procedure might lead to Android malware infection.

The study’s authors found no evidence that OnePlus phones were doing anything illegal. The researchers were investigating claims that all three brands had participated in possible dubious activities over the previous few years. Although their very affordable phones are simple to acquire from major online shops, neither Xiaomi nor Huawei have carrier relationships or direct distribution in the United States. In Europe, the brands are well-known and frequently used.

While utilizing these devices, like with other Android phones, you’ll want to install and utilize some of the finest Android antivirus programs. Xiaomi phones’ built-in Google Play Protect isn’t enough, and we don’t know what type of protection Huawei phones offer.

On a Huawei phone, you should also avoid utilizing any app stores other than the built-in AppGallery. These third-party marketplaces frequently feature malware-infected versions of well-known programs.
